A pretty good day...

At church, I am an adult leader for our youth group -- LOLLY (Lord of Life Lutheran Youth) and they recently held a silent auction to raise money to purchase Thanksgiving meals for needy families. They donated babysitting, lawn mowing, food, even a plane ride from a parent. This Sunday was the end of the event and they were able to raise $360 that I used to purchase over 15 complete meals including a gift certificate for the turkeys in each. I delivered these items to Garner Area Ministries for distribution today. I expected the volunteers there to be inundated with items at this time of the year and maybe not as impressed by so much food at one time. But, boy, was I wrong!! They were all so grateful and helpful with everything. It really made me feel even better about what our youth group was able to accomplish.

After this, I stopped by Emma's school and read to her class while her teacher prepared the room for nap time. What a great way to feel good about yourself -- everyone fought over who would get to hug me more. They all wanted to be tucked in before I left. The pay may not be what is should be if you're a teacher, but all that love sure is a nice perk!!!

As part of the call committee at my church, I will be spending tonight in our last training session to prepare for this mission. We get to participate in a mock interview tonight. So far, it is an interesting process and I am really learning a lot. It's such an overwhelming responsibility but the training is helping me feel more prepared and able to handle to task. I'm working with such a great group of people -- so many wise and experienced people -- that I know it will be a learning experience all the way through.

Christmas is in the air....

I am starting to get excited already!!! Only because Barbie sent me her Christmas list -- HA! I actually ordered my first Christmas gift of the year yesterday. I don't know why I am so excited, so early this year... We have events filling up all of the days already. I know life will get crazy and it will all fly by, but I really want to focus on staying in the moment and enjoying everything this year. This will be the first year that both kids are able to really enjoy and understand things or, at least, I hope they will enjoy and understand. Neither has really asked for anything specific but Emma definitely knows that presents are just around the corner and that has her very excited. Seth is still at the age where he will be entertained by toilet paper cardboard rolls and balls of wrapping paper.

Merry Christmas to all -- early!!

What a great (and busy) weekend!!!!

We tried a great new service on Friday night. Daniel and I took the kids to The Magpie's Nest in Garner which is a drop in child care facility. We told Emma she was going to a Kid's Party where adults were not allowed to stay -- she said she didn't want to go anywhere without us at first. But, as soon as she arrived, she forgot all about us. She has already asked to go back 4 or 5 times. It was a big hit with both kids. The lovely woman who runs the business bragged to me that Emma was the only kid there who cleaned up after herself after dinner without being asked to do so. Daniel and I got to go out for a drink and a movie. "Stranger Than Fiction" was the movie choice and we really loved it.

Saturday, Emma and Seth both went to JJ's Kids Cuts for haircuts. Both of them had a great time and got great cuts! I just love that place. We then picked up Kayla and went to the Putt-Putt place in Garner for Robbie Fox's 8th birthday. It was great -- we stayed until 7pm. The kids really had a ball but passed out as soon as their bottoms were in their seats in the car. Daniel and I loved the go-carts and want to go back again to ride without the kids! Emma climbed all the way to the top of the rock climbing wall!!! I even jumped on the no gravity bungee jumpy thingy.

On Sunday, we went to church. I ended up in the nursery with the kids and Kayla went to the service all by herself. She has grown up so much and I love how important church is to her. She sat alone during the service and everyone bragged to me about how well behaved she was and how well she followed along with the service. She and I talked about what all she learned afterward and it's just amazing how much she takes away from the whole experience of the service and Sunday School!!! I was very proud of her. She also had a great report from school last week so the kids and I took her out to a special lunch! We had a great time together.

I ended the weekend with a youth group meeting which was as rewarding as usual. We discussed what it meant to be truly thankful and how we're instructed to be thankful in all times and in all places -- in good times and in bad. That is our challenge!!

Looking forward to...

On December 1 of this year, Daniel and I will celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. We'll be traveling to Wilmington the weekend after Thanksgiving -- without the kids!!! These are pictures of the room we'll be staying in. We have a spiral staircase in our room that leads up to the room in the 2nd picture with a great view of the entire city. Champagne, a 4-course meal, and narrated carriage ride are included in our stay. I can't wait!!

The 1st post of bland news..............

I have decided that we should also have a blogspot -- so that we can be just like Dave and Babs!!
We have just gotten back from a weekend in Norfolk, Virginia for our friend's wedding. My college roommate, Carrie Harris, married Kevin Brown this weekend. I was a bridesmaid and Emma was the flower girl. I'll post pictures as soon as get them. But Emma was a star, as usual....

Our house is still on the market and we've had no offers. For now, we're okay with that. There really isn't anything out there that we're dying to buy and we like our house so much more now that we've updated a few things. We have plans to do more so we'll have to see where that leads.

Everyone is doing very well. Seth is talking so much!! He cracks us up -- he's gotten very good at demanding my attention by yelling 'Mama' very firmly. Emma continues to live in time out at school. She's in a tough room and seems to be very capable at taking care of herself. We try to focus on the fact that she'll be a great negotiator one day....
